El cosmonauta Sergey Ryazanskiy, @sergeyiss, posteó en su cuenta de Instagram una imagen del Lago de Maracaibo tomadas desde la Estación Espacial Internacional, donde se aprecia en toda su extensión el reservorio de agua dulce más grande de Suramérica y emblema del estado Zulia.

 

Ryazanskiy acompaña la imagen con una descripción del lago que es alimentado por más de 130 ríos y arroyos, entre ellos el Catatumbo. “En la confluencia de este río en el lago, entre 160-190 días al año se puede observar un fenómeno natural único: “rayo del Catatumbo”: rayos que ocurren durante un largo período de tiempo, ¡y los rayos pueden alcanzar los 5 km!», escribe admirado el ruso.

 

Además, cuenta una historia ocurrida en 1595. “Se dice que los barcos bajo el mando de Francis Drake intentaron llevar a cabo un ataque nocturno en la ciudad de Maracaibo, pero gracias a la iluminación, el vigilante nocturno notó las siluetas de los barcos y se interrumpió el ataque prematuro”.
